INTERGENERATIONAL LITERACY PROGRAM
The Intergenerational Literacy Program (ILP) is committed to seeing our learners and their families succeed by providing literacy instruction to adults and youth, as well as connecting our learners to additional resources that will support them to reach their goals.
A Bit of Background
INTERGENERATIONAL LITERACY PROGRAM
AT A GLANCE
The families we serve reflect the diverse makeup of the Chelsea community. The city of Chelsea has long been a gateway city for immigrants, and our learners tend to reflect whatever current immigration trends in Chelsea. Parents come to the ILP because they are committed to their children’s learning, it is also clear that they, and all of our adult learners are motivated to participate by very explicit personal goals. For these immigrant families, the most frequently stated personal goals are to “read, write, and speak English”, to help their children succeed in school, and to earn a high school credential.

Finding Our Way- 2018 ILP Anthology
Since the program began we have collected and learned from our families' stories. This year's volume is a testament to the work, fears, and dreams of the parents, adults, youth, and children participating in the program who have made tremendous gains in strengthening their literacy and English language, in building a strong community, and in sharing their experience through powerful stories. Download our 2018 Anthology as an ibook or pdf below.
